At one point in your life, did you change yourself to try to fit in, only to find that you still don’t feel like you belong? In this second episode I reflect on belonging. I introduce the idea of the moving target which is about chasing different norms in order to fit in, thinking that it will give you a sense of belonging; however, that moving target just takes you away from yourself. Contrasting it with Western views on life purpose tied to career, I talk about the idea that ikigai is more about present, daily practices that bring joy and meaning. I share personal examples as expressions of ikigai. The episode emphasizes the importance of connecting with our ancestors to discover ikigai, and encourages listeners to explore what brings them fulfillment, satisfaction, and connection in their lives.
